Solutions & Services

A successful sludge management plan starts with a successful sludge survey

Dredging your lagoon is an expensive and complex process with inherent risks. By conducting a sludge survey from Sludge Mapper, you gain critical data on sludge volumes. This information will prove invaluable in developing a robust sludge management plan and preparing for the dredging tender process.

Our Process

We are committed to working with you every step of the way, ensuring a transparent process with no surprises, and delivering comprehensive surveying completed in a timely manner.

Business Meeting

1

Prepare

You can request a free sludge survey proposal and estimate with no obligations. This marks the initial step in developing your sludge management plan.

3

Plan

Once you have your lagoon sludge data, it will assist you in developing a sludge management plan, encompassing a budget and various sludge disposal options.

Equipment

Sludge Mapper's dual frequency sonar.

Shallow Water Sonar

We utilize a sonar system specially designed for shallow water lagoons and ponds. This system transmits dual frequencies with very narrow beam widths, resulting in significantly cleaner data compared to standard sonars designed for much deeper applications.

Hydrographic Survey Software

The software employed for post-processing the field data is a professional-grade hydrographic survey package. Our shallow water sonar has been designed in collaboration with our hydrographic software provider ensuring complete compatibility between the two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sludge Mapper Ltd.

How do I know if my lagoon has a problem or will have a problem?

The only way to be sure is to have your lagoon or pond surveyed. While visual inspection of the surface can identify signs of excessive sludge build-up, a comprehensive understanding of the situation requires a survey conducted with sonar.

What does your reporting give us?

Our reports will provide you with the volume of sludge in your lagoon or pond, pinpointing its location as the sludge blanket is not uniform. Additionally, we analyze its composition so you can determine disposal options.  This information assists  you in determine whether dredging is even required.

If I don't need to dredge now, when will I need to?

By conducting 2 or more surveys in a year, we can calculate sludge accumulation rates, providing estimates for when dredging may be needed. For a more precise timeframe, we recommend a multi-year monitoring program.

How do we dispose of the sludge?

We collect samples of the sludge for analysis. Understanding the sludge composition enables you to evaluate various disposal options.

How much will dredging cost?

Dredging companies typically estimate sludge removal based on dry tonnage.  By utilizing sludge volume calculations and laboratory tests, a reliable estimate can be determined.

How do I manage dredge contract performance?

Once the pre-dredge sludge tonnage is known, a post-dredge survey can accurately determine the amount of sludge removed during the dredging process.
